Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy
Tongue thrust can affect both children and adults. Correct resting posture for our tongue is at the top of our mouth on our hard palate. When your tongue doesn't rest on the top of your mouth it can rest low and forward. Each time these individuals swallow, they push their tongues against or between their teeth. During a normal swallow, the tongue pushes upward against the palate. Unhealthy oral habits, like tongue thrust, put these individuals at risk for persistent speech disorders and/or orthodontic relapse as well as serious health problems such as chronic allergies and asthma, chronic jaw/neck pain, snoring, migraines, lack of sleep and sleep apnea. Children with myofunctional disorders may also present tired during the day as they are not getting enough sleep at night. We work with individuals of all ages, and we specialize in treating people with orofacial myofunctional disorders including tongue thrust, mouth breathing, snoring, sleep apnea, sleep breathing and airway issues, tongue tie and other tethered oral tissues, dental/orthodontic issues related to myofunctional disorders, and parafunctional habits such as thumb/finger sucking, pacifier use, nail biting, and more.

Do you offer in person sessions?
Yes! We offer in person sessions in our office in Hampstead, NC or at your preschool/private school and virtually. We also offer virtual sessions for our clients located in California.

Do you offer supplementary services?
Yes, Nalu is partnered with Believe Pediatrics! We value what Believe Pediatrics brings to their clients and we couldn't help but partner with them. Believe Pediatrics specializes in Occupational Therapy. Together we offer co-treat sessions at one of our locations in Carlsbad or Encinitas to provide a complete client centered holistic approach. Contact us to learn more about our partnership and offerings!

Do you take insurance?
Nalu Speech Therapy does not currently take insurance. We can provide a superbill upon request for you to submit to insurance. A superbill is a receipt of the speech services you’ve already received and paid for with billing compliant information listed, CPT (procedure codes) and ICD-10 (diagnosis codes). Depending on your goals we can provide you with the billing code that is most appropriate to you. You can then submit the superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement for out-of-network services.
By not billing insurance directly this allow us to provide the most client centered therapy possible. We are given the flexibility to provide services to you that may not be covered by your insurance. This allows us to treat the whole body, rather than just one part of the body. Giving our Speech Language Pathologists full autonomy to provide the highest level of care for what you need.

When calling your insurance to verify your out-of-network speech therapy, here are some questions to ask:
-
Are visits to an “out-of-network” Licensed Speech Language Pathologists reimbursable?
-
Is there a limit to the number of visits that can be reimbursed?
-
Do I have a deductible to meet before insurance pays?
-
Are teletherapy services covered?
Do I need a referral from our doctor?
No! Since we do not accept medical insurance, there is no need for a family doctor or pediatrician referral.
What do I need to do to schedule an appointment or evaluation?
